Eloise is my cousins daughter
But to me she's a niece
She likes fossils
I like her for many reasons
There are some people, she doesn't like to speak to
She sits in the living
Room in the round
Circle of rocks
Her rocks
Make sense
To her
Monoliths perturb some people
Is an explanation always necessary?
Sometimes it's just easier to break bread with stones
But then sometimes…
We want to break stones
And eat a baguette in complete utter silence
While everyone else
Talks with their mouth open
I don't mind, I delight in our closed exchanges
Of grey senseless beings
Hers are so curious and so heightened
She turns over her findings
And I look down at her
Looking down at them
And I want to tell her
I understand
That she cannot stand them sometimes
She cannot stand
So, I stand
Walk up and greet them with my hands
She stays
Stillness is a chisels friend
And I will be hers patiently
I let the moment wash over me, glad to be made of the same mortar
Eloise is my cousins daughter
But to me she's a niece
She likes fossils
I like her for many reasons
